Twenty provincial high schools participate in
2009 Ontario Envirothon Championships
May 1, 2009 (St. George, ON) - From May 6-9, 2009 high school students will be representing regions from across Ontario, showcasing their
environmental smarts at the 2009 provincial Envirothon competition. The winning team will proudly advance
to the Canon Envirothon Championships taking place in Asheville, North Carolina from August 2-8, 2009.
The annual provincial competition reaches over 5,000 Ontario students each year, and is part of a broader
environment education program encouraging students to get outdoors and experience nature first hand.
In addition to raising awareness of the needs of Ontario's forests, Envirothon encourages critical thinking,
problem solving, teamwork and communication skills among participants.
